Private Lessons

Saxophone

Clarinet

Flute

Interested in learning the saxophone, clarinet or flute? I have been in private teaching practice under the business name The Woodwind Companion for 20 years, teaching at schools throughout Sydney and Canberra as well as adults of all ages and abilities. My qualifications include a Bachelor of Music Education with Honours and a Bachelor of Jazz Performance, both completed at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and recently I completed a Masters degree in music at the ANU.

I have experience not just in jazz, but in classical and contemporary styles of music. I’m also always keen to learn about new styles of music if there’s something in particular you’d like to learn that I haven’t encountered. My teaching style is flexible, from sequential notation and technical-based studies (including exams) to study of particular styles of music and improvisation and to studies guided more by the student’s own interests.

Lessons take place at my home studio in West Belconnen and are typically 30 mins in duration, though longer lessons may be arranged. For more information about lessons and to enquire after availability please fill out the form below.

If you’re keen to get started (on saxophone at least!), scroll further down where you will find 10 beginner lessons I have recorded to speed along new students. Below this is a video which includes the woodwind instruments you might learn in my lessons.
